Detected changes, each with its evidence and a rating

A signal is a detected change such as a price move, a launch or a rise in customer complaints. It shows what changed, how important it is and what to do next, and you can promote it to an insight for review.

What happened

Meridian's Pro plan increased from $49 to $59 per seat per month on its pricing page.

Why it matters

A price rise on top of a 10-seat minimum widens the cost of a slow migration for small agencies, and opens room to position on price and time-to-value.

  • S5 · 5 Oct snapshot (after)
  • C-030 · claim created from the change
Recommended actions

  • Monitor customer reaction
Importance and confidence are separate: how much it matters versus how sure the detection is.

The problem

Alerts that say only “page changed”

A typical alert says a page changed. You still have to work out what changed, whether it matters, how sure anyone is and what to do about it. After a few noisy alerts, people stop reading them.

How it works

  1. Detect a real change. A monitored page is compared with its last stored snapshot. A price that moved, a free plan that disappeared, a rewritten headline or a new launch line becomes a candidate. An unchanged page produces nothing.
  2. Capture the before and the after. Each signal keeps both snapshots and a stored claim that describes the change, so you can open the evidence.
  3. Rate importance and confidence. Importance runs from low to critical and reflects the type and size of the change. Confidence is low, medium or high and reflects how directly the change was observed and how reliable the source is. The two are rated separately.
  4. Give a reason and recommended actions. Each signal carries a plain-language reason and recommended actions. A model may reword them using your workspace context, but it cannot add facts, invent IDs or raise importance by more than one level.
  5. Triage or promote. Acknowledge or dismiss a signal, or promote it to a draft insight. An approved insight can then become an action.

Evidence and provenance

  • A signal links to its claim, its snapshots and its source, and each link opens.
  • Detection compares stored snapshots. A model is not asked whether something changed.
  • Dismissed signals stay on record and are left out of briefs.

Signals come from Monitor and from research. They feed Briefs and Ask, and become insights when you promote them.

FAQ

Signals: common questions

What kinds of signal are detected today?

Pricing changes, removed free plans, launch and integration wording on watched pages, headline and positioning changes, material page rewrites, new coverage or discussion matching a query, and increases in how many new sources match a watchlist. Other signal types are not detected yet.

Can a signal be wrong?

Yes. The difference between two snapshots is recorded, but what it means is a judgement. Each signal shows its evidence and a confidence label, and a person decides whether to promote it.

What happens when I promote a signal?

It becomes a draft insight that carries the signal’s claim and evidence. It waits for review, and only an approved insight can be used for an action.
