Sigblaze, a one-off AI chat and spreadsheets
Three ways to do competitor and market research, compared on what each one keeps and what it checks for you. The table describes behaviour, not specific products.
| Capability | One-off AI chat | Spreadsheets and manual tracking | Sigblaze |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remembers workspace context | Usually only what you paste into the conversation. Some tools keep notes between chats, which varies by tool. | Whatever you keep in the sheet. It is not applied to a new question automatically. | Company, product, ICP, market and competitors are stored and versioned. Each research run inherits them and records which version it used. |
| Stores sources with dates | Links may be shown in an answer. A saved copy and a retrieval date are usually not kept. | You paste URLs and dates yourself. | Each retrieved page is stored with its type, host and retrieval date. |
| Atomic claims | The answer is prose. Its statements are not stored as separate, linkable items. | Possible if you write one claim per row and link it to its source by hand. | Sources are split into single-statement claims, each linked to its excerpt. |
| Shows disagreement | A summary tends to merge sources into one answer unless you ask for the conflicts. | Only if you notice a conflict and record it. | A claim with conflicting evidence is marked contested, and the evidence on each side stays listed. |
| Notices page changes | No. It answers when asked and does not re-check pages. | Manual: you revisit each page and compare by eye. | Watchlists re-check pages daily or weekly and compare each check with the last stored snapshot. A real difference becomes a signal. |
| Weekly digest | You ask for a summary each time. | You write it. | A brief is assembled from the signals of a day, week or month, or on demand. |
| Review before reuse | Whatever you do with the transcript. | Your own process, such as a column for status. | Insights are approved or rejected. Only approved insights feed actions and Ask. |
| Trace an action back | Only if you kept the sources and the prompt. | Only if you linked rows by hand. | An action links to its insights, their claims and the stored sources behind them. You can follow the chain in either direction. |
The Sigblaze column describes the private alpha. Signals are shown in the app; email and chat alerts are not built yet. See the methodology for how claims, signals and insights are produced.
Fair use
When the alternative is enough
A workspace costs setup time. These are the cases where it does not pay back.
You have one question and will not revisit it
A chat answers it faster than setting up a workspace. Check the sources it names, and stop there.
You follow two or three pages by hand
A spreadsheet with a link, a date and a note per page is enough while you can look at each page yourself every month.
The material is behind a login or in your own files
Sigblaze reads public pages only. Retrieval over uploaded documents is not built yet, so use the tool that can open the file.
If the question comes back, see how a workspace handles it, or read about Monitor and evidence and claims.
